Create a database

  1. Go to Databases and click to create a database.
  2. Choose Database Engine: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Redis or RabbitMQ.
  3. Database Configuration: enter a Database Name (or click Generate). The name becomes the actual database name, so it’s normalised to lowercase letters, digits and _: my-awesome-database becomes my_awesome_database. For PostgreSQL, pick a Version (14, 15, 16 or 17; 16 is selected by default). Other engines show their fixed version.
  4. Instance & Storage: choose a Deployment Region close to your app, and a storage size. MySQL isn’t offered in the us region yet; that region is greyed out when you pick MySQL.
  5. Click Create Database.

The success screen shows the connection string and password.

The database is usually ready within a minute. If the screen says it’s still starting, give it a moment.

Terminal window
curl -X POST "https://api.dockhive.io/api/v1/databases?region=eu" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $DOCKHIVE_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"engine": "postgresql", "version": "16", "db_name": "app", "storage_limit_mb": 1024}'
Field Required Notes
engine Yes postgresql, mysql, mariadb, redis, rabbitmq or oracle
version No PostgreSQL only: "14", "15", "16" or "17". Default "16". Other engines accept only their fixed version (or leave it out)
db_name Yes Starts with a letter or _; letters, digits and _; up to 63 characters
storage_limit_mb No 100 to 1,000,000 (1 TB). Default 1024
require_tls No Default true
restore_from No PostgreSQL only: {"db_id": "...", "backup_id": "..."} to start from a backup of another of your databases in the same region. See Restore into a new database

The response includes db_id, engine_version, db_host, db_port, db_user, db_password, db_name and a ready-made connection_uri. See API keys to create DOCKHIVE_API_KEY.

To list the versions you can pick, call GET /api/v1/databases/engines: each engine has versions (with default, deprecated, eol and notes), default_version and version_selectable.

From the MCP server, use the create_database tool (it takes an optional version).
