Any single request can carry at most 100 MB, so upload files larger than 100 MB with multipart uploads. The AWS CLI and SDKs do this for you; just make sure their part size and multipart threshold are 100 MB or less. Their defaults are fine:

Tool Default part size Setting
AWS CLI 8 MB multipart_threshold, multipart_chunksize in ~/.aws/config
boto3 8 MB TransferConfig(multipart_threshold=..., multipart_chunksize=...)
AWS SDK for JavaScript (Upload) 5 MB partSize
rclone 5 MB --s3-chunk-size, --s3-upload-cutoff

A request bigger than 100 MB is refused before it reaches your bucket. Unfinished multipart uploads keep their parts (and count as storage) until they’re completed or aborted; add an AbortIncompleteMultipartUpload lifecycle rule to clean them up.

  • 3 to 63 characters: lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens (-) and dots (.), starting and ending with a letter or number.
  • Not formatted like an IP address, and some prefixes are reserved.
  • Names are unique across all DockHive accounts; if a name is taken, pick another.
  • A bucket’s name and region can’t be changed. To rename, create a new bucket and copy the files (aws s3 sync s3://old s3://new).
  • A bucket must be empty before you delete it.
