Custom domains
Serve your app on your own domain, such as www.example.com or example.com. HTTPS certificates are issued and renewed automatically.
Add a domain
Section titled “Add a domain”-
Open your app and go to the Domains & TLS tab. Under Add Custom Domain, enter the domain and click Add Domain. (You can also enter a domain when creating the app; it’s added after the first successful deploy.)
-
The console shows two DNS records to create at your DNS provider. Each has a Copy button.
Type Name (host) Value CNAMEwwwthe target shown in the console, like wonder-web-8ml2.apps.dockhive.cloudTXT_dockhive-verification.wwwthe token shown in the console, like dockhive-verify-…The CNAME sends traffic to your app. The TXT record proves the domain is yours.
-
Wait for the records to appear (usually minutes, sometimes up to 48 hours), then click Verify DNS & Complete Setup.
-
Once verified, DockHive issues the HTTPS certificate, usually in under a minute. The domain shows Active.
Root domains (example.com)
Section titled “Root domains (example.com)”Most DNS providers can’t add a normal CNAME at the root of a domain. Add the same target as an ALIAS, ANAME or flattened CNAME record instead; most providers support one of these. If yours supports none of them, point www at the target and forward the root domain to www with your provider’s redirect feature.
Statuses
Section titled “Statuses”| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Waiting for DNS | Add the records, then click Verify. |
| Issuing certificate | DNS is verified; the certificate is on its way. |
| Active | Your domain serves the app over HTTPS. The certificate renews automatically. |
| Failed | The certificate couldn’t be issued. The reason is shown, and DockHive retries automatically. Fix DNS and click Check DNS & Retry Certificate. |
If verification fails
Section titled “If verification fails”The console tells you what it found:
- TXT record … not found or does not match: check the TXT name and value. Some providers add your domain to the name automatically, so enter only
_dockhive-verification.www. - no CNAME or A record found … yet: new records can take a few minutes to appear.
- … is a CNAME to X, not to …: update the CNAME to the target shown in the console.
- The domain resolves to a proxy, not to DockHive: switch the record to DNS only.
- The domain also has AAAA (IPv6) records: remove them.
Rules and limits
Section titled “Rules and limits”- Up to 5 custom domains per app.
- A domain can belong to only one app across all DockHive accounts. If someone else has added it, you’ll see domain is already claimed.
- Verify within 72 hours of adding a domain. After that the claim lapses, and you’ll need to add it again. This stops anyone from holding a domain they don’t control.
- A domain is only routed to your app after its TXT record checks out.
- DockHive’s own domains can’t be added.
- Up to 5 new certificates per account per day.
Remove a domain
Section titled “Remove a domain”Click the trash icon next to the domain and confirm. DockHive removes the route and certificate. Your DNS records are untouched, so delete them at your provider too.
Domains for HivePods work the same way; see Custom domains for HivePods.
